What you should know about X-rays

X-rays are the most basic form of imaging tests that allow us to view the body’s internal structures. You do not need to do anything to prepare for an X-ray and the test should not cause any major discomfort. These tests help doctors diagnose fractures, tumors, arthritis, lung damage, and more.

X-rays use small amounts of radiation to create images. Radiation exposure from an x-ray should not cause any damage to an adult or child. If you are pregnant or have received other radiation-based imaging tests in the past year, please tell your doctor. Exposure to imaging radiation can be dangerous for a developing fetus or for adults and children who have been exposed multiple times in a year.
